An associate professor of early childhood education at Hawaii Community College, Mai Wong fills her classes withf practical and hands-on experiences that create a fun learning environment for her students.
Wong is credited for setting up and coordinating the Professional and Career (PACE) Program on the Big Island, which helps students to further their professional career goals in working with young children. Her students say that her depth of knowledge, background and varied and creative teaching strategies provide for effective motivation.
The Frances Davis Award for Undergraduate Teaching recognizes dedication and demonstrated excellence as teachers of undergraduate students. It was established as a memorial to the late Frances Davis, who taught mathematics at Leeward Community College and UH Manoa for 19 years.
