What's Wrong With Philippine Studies? Reflections from the Margins of the Nat

In the last decade, there had been a notable shift towards the Right by several senior "nationalist" historians in the Philippines, the latest of which was the wholesale support by Reynaldo Ileto of Rodrigo Duterte and the attempts to rewrite the story of the brutal Marcos dictatorship by its enablers This lecture explores several explanations behind this "reactionary turn" and their consequences on Philippine scholarship, especially as it pertains to the stories of the economically, politically, and culturally marginalized.
