Community Dialogues, Connection: Poetry and the Body ----------------- These are facilitated sessions where you can engage with peers from diverse backgrounds. People who participate in the Community Dialogues program will be able to: 1) Identify important aspects of their personal backgrounds, 2) Articulate the value of understanding different perspectives, 3) Describe and demonstrate principles of positive social engagement in communication, and 4) Understand about being responsible members of the Community. ----------------- 鈥淐onnection: Poetry and the Body鈥 with Kamakani Albano Wednesday, October 23, 2024 In-Person: 9 AM - 10:15 AM at Academic Resource Center, Room 114 Via Zoom: 10:30 AM - 11:45 AM Register at https://tinyurl.com/cdfall2024 -------------- Session: We will give the space for reflection and free writing in the form of poetry or short prose. In the business that life often seems to require, it is important to take the time to breathe and express oneself in spoken, written, musical form, or with visual art. We will be taking a look at some short poems, and writing our own poems or short letters to encourage ourselves or others. ---------- Speaker: Kamakani Albano is a m膩h奴 Kanaka 驶艑iwi poet from the ahupua驶a of Kalihilihiolaumiha on the island of O驶ahu with genealogical ties to the island of Maui. They are currently pursuing a graduate degree in Political Science and is a Graduate Research Assistant at the Native Hawaiian Place of Learning Advancement Office at the University of Hawai驶i at 惭腻苍辞补. As a literary artist who finds healing in remembering and returning to Moananui膩kea鈥攖he oceanic womb of Pap膩hanaumoku, Kamakani is inspired by the embodiment of ocean feminisms, erotic sovereignty, and poetry as it relates to m膩h奴 驶艑iwi bodies.
