Oceanography Seminar - Kelvin Richards
April 11, 3:00pm - 4:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Marine Science Building #100
What do you do as a species if the environment around you changes? To avoid extinction, you can you try to adapt to the new conditions or migrate to a more livable location, We will focus on the latter. As an example the range of numerous species has been seen to extend to a higher latitude or higher elevation as the planet warms. Migration, however, is not done in isolation and can involve competition with other species. We will explore how the form of migration, competition, possible interbreeding between populations, and environmental conditions all affect the outcome and the species survival.
