JAVANESE GAMELAN CONCERT

March 30, 7:30pm - 9:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Music Department Barbara Smith Amphiteater

Enjoy the sounds of Javanese Gamelan music in the outdoor setting of the Music Department's Barbara Smith Amphitheater.

Gamelan Kyai Gandrung is a collection of 50+ instruments, made up primarily of bronze gongs and keyed instruments in highly decorated cases. The range of sound spans over five octaves, and the many separate parts weave together to produce a rich texture of sound.

The UH Gamelan Ensemble, now in its 54th year, is made up of students and members of the community.

Repertoire for this concert includes music from the two main hubs for Central Javanese gamelan, Surakarta and Jogjakarta.

Amphitheater style seating. Bring a cushion, but no tall chairs. Rain protection is suggested, in case of "Manoa mist."
