A Book Talk with Curtis Chin

The Center for Oral History and Department of Ethnic Studies is hosting a book talk and lunch reception with filmmaker and author Curtis Chin on Monday, March 4th. Curtis is a cofounder of the Asian American Writers鈥 Workshop in New York City and served as the nonprofit鈥檚 first executive director. He went on to write for network television before transitioning to social-justice documentaries. In an interview with NPR in November 2023, Curtis "recalls his upbringing as a gay Chinese-American boy in 1980s Detroit, and how the family business served as the ultimate safe space 鈥 not just for him, but for everyone in the city." His memoir, considered a "must-read" by the Washington Post and Time Magazine, titled "Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant" will be available for purchase after the talk.
