University of Hawai芒鈧渋 Presents Ragamala Dance Company in "They Rose at Dawn"
Saturday, March 11, 2017 芒鈧 7:30pm UHM Orvis Auditorium
芒鈧揝oulful, imaginative and rhythmically contagious. . . providing some of the most transcendent experiences that dance has to offer.芒鈧 芒鈧漈he New York Times
Described as 芒鈧搕hrillingly three-dimensional . . . rapturous and profound芒鈧 (The New York Times) and selected as one of Dance Magazine芒鈧劉s 25 to Watch for 2010, Aparna Ramaswamy performs in the solo work, 芒鈧揟hey Rose at Dawn.芒鈧 In this stunning piece, women are depicted as carriers of ritual. Navigating inner and outer worlds, they invoke a sense of reverence, of unfolding mystery, of imagination. A stellar Carnatic musical ensemble accompanies Aparna Ramaswamy as she explores the spontaneous interplay between music and movement and the dynamic contours created by the artists onstage.
Imbuing the South Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam with a thoroughly contemporary exuberance and their 芒鈧搗isionary approach to an ancient art form,芒鈧 (Dance Magazine), Ragamala explores the dynamic tension between the ancestral and the contemporary, making dance landscapes that dwell in opposition芒鈧漵ecular and spiritual life, inner and outer worlds, the human and the natural, rhythm and stillness芒鈧漷o find the transcendence that lies in between.
