By Professor Alison Conner, UHM Richardson School of Law

Pr脙漏cis: This presentation will discuss ideas of law and justice in Evening Rain (1980), which was directed by Wu Yonggang (one of China芒鈧劉s greatest filmmakers) and Wu Yigong just after the Cultural Revolution. Like other examples of 芒鈧搒car cinema芒鈧 Evening Rain depicts that era芒鈧劉s injustices, but unlike most films it focuses on the importance of law. It remains a beautiful and moving film and its message is still powerful today.

About the Speaker: Alison Conner is Professor of Law at the William S. Richardson School of Law, where she teaches courses on Chinese law. Her articles on law and film include 芒鈧揑mages of Justice (and Injustice): Trials in the Movies of Xie Jin芒鈧 (2013); 芒鈧揟he Lawyer Who Haunts Us: Yin Zhaoshi and the Bright Day芒鈧 (2014); and 芒鈧揟rials and Injustice in Awaara: A Post-Colonial Movie on Post-Revolutionary Screens芒鈧 (2014).
