October 20, 3:00pm - 4:30pm
Mānoa Campus, John Young Museum of Art

Painter KIMURA Ry脜聧ko talks about her work in this artist talk. She is one of six artists highlighted in the exhibition "Imay脜聧: Japan's New Traditionists" on view at The Art Gallery at the University of Hawai芒鈧渋 at M脛聛noa (Oct. 2 芒鈧 Dec. 2, 2016) and at the Honolulu Museum of Art (Oct. 13, 2016 芒鈧 Jan. 9, 2017).

KIMURA Ry脜聧ko芒鈧劉s paintings evoke Japan芒鈧劉s "ukiyo-e" (pictures of the floating world) tradition, but with a twist芒鈧漷he substitution of Edo-period female beauties with contemporary male models creates images that fluctuate between the erotic and the comic.
