Imay脜聧: Workshop on y脜芦zen paste-resist dyeing by textile artist ISHII T脜聧ru

Textile artist ISHII T脜聧ru presents an artist talk and technical lecture on "yuzen" dyeing techniques. He is one of six artists highlighted in the exhibition "Imay脜聧: Japan's New Traditionists" on view at The Art Gallery at the University of Hawai芒鈧渋 at M脛聛noa (Oct. 2 芒鈧 Dec. 2, 2016) and at the Honolulu Museum of Art (Oct. 13, 2016 芒鈧 Jan. 9, 2017).
ISHII T脜聧ru, a specialist in "itome" (fine-line) "y脜芦zen" silk dyeing, evokes colorful images of twenty-first century Japan, such as convenience stores, instant noodle packaging, and Tokyo Tower, spliced with traditional icons of pre-modern Japanese culture, such as samurai, Kabuki actors, and Mount Fuji.
