Genealogies, Kuleana, and Unstaking Settler Colonial Claims to Hawai脢禄i

September 8, 12:00pm - 1:15pm
Mānoa Campus, Kuykendall 410

Staking Claim demonstrates the ways racialization fuels settler colonialism in the islands through an interdisciplinary analysis. It argues that the racialization of Hawaiians and the indigenization of non-Hawaiians work concurrently to enable the staking of non-Hawaiian claims to Hawai芒鈧劉i.

Author of Staking Claim, Judy Rohrer, grew up in Hawai芒鈧劉i and earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Hawai芒鈧劉i at M脛聛noa. Rohrer芒鈧劉s first book, Haoles in Hawai芒鈧劉i, was published in 2010 through the University of Hawai芒鈧劉i Press.
