Math+Science+x Seminar: The Death of Coral Reefs

April 29, 10:30am - 11:30am
West Oʻahu Campus, E243

In 芒鈧揟he Death of Coral Reefs?芒鈧 Dr. Evelyn 芒鈧揊enny芒鈧 Cox will discuss why coral reefs are so important to Hawai芒鈧渋. All students, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome to attend this free presentation.

Coral reefs globally are under increasing pressure from a number of human activities including climate change. Much research has been done on the impacts of increased sea water temperatures on coral bleaching. Cox will describe how corals respond in the short-term and long-term to bleaching as well as the issue of how fast corals can adapt to increased temperatures. Dr. Cox will also discuss ocean acidification and current efforts at the Hawai芒鈧渋 Institute of Marine Biology to understand how corals respond to changes in ocean pH.
