Aloha Ai/na: Relationships of Land and Literature, Food and Amphibians with Dr. Leilani Basham
Associate Professor of Hawaiian Pacific Studies Leilani Basham will explore the relationships between 芒鈧揳i芒鈧 and 芒鈧揳ina芒鈧 and their myriad meanings, including 脢禄ai, ai, aina, and 脢禄脛聛ina. Specifically, this analysis will be grounded in the mo脢禄olelo (histories, literatures) relating to four mo脢禄o akua (amphibian, reptile deities) from the island of O脢禄ahu.
Nazi Appropriation of Aloha in Klaus Mehnert芒鈧劉s The XXth Century with Dr. Alan Rosenfeld
Associate Professor of History Alan Rosenfeld will discuss the rhetorical strategies at play in the Nazi wartime magazine The XXth Century, produced by former University of Hawai芒鈧渋 professor Klaus Mehnert in Japanese-occupied Shanghai.
