April 6, 12:00pm - 1:15pmMānoa Campus, KUY 410 & Zoom
The Center for Biographical Research presents: / “The Zone of Pure Doubt: A Poetics of Line Crossing” / Judd Morrissey, Associate Professor, Art & Technology Studies & Writing, School of the Art Institute of Chicago / Zone of Pure Doubt: A Poetics of Line Crossing is a year-long engagement with writing, performance, and augmented reality (AR) that draws upon nautical ceremonies connected to passage across the equator and international dateline. The project excavates and re-imagines historical line-crossing ceremonies as rituals to subvert and queer embodied forces of colonial and imperialist masculinity. Bending the clockwork of standardized time, by crossing where it bends, Zone of Pure Doubt is generative of outputs including scattered formations of life writing, poetic field recordings, ritual choreographies, and geo-locative mixed reality environments. / Judd Morrissey is a writer and code artist who creates poetic systems across a range of platforms incorporating electronic writing, internet art, live performance, and augmented reality. He teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and co-founded the performance collective Anatomical Theatres of Mixed Reality (ATOM-r). He is a recipient of an Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant, a Fulbright Scholar’s Award in Digital Culture, and a Mellon Foundation Collaborative Fellowship for Arts Practice and Scholarship./ Cosponsored by Hamilton Library, the Hawaiʻinuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge, the Spark M. Matsunaga Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, the School of Cinematic Arts, the School of Communication & Information, the Departments of Anthropology, History, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies / Thursday, April 6 / KUY 410 & Zoom / 12 noon to 1:15PM HST / Zoom link: https://hawaii.zoom.us/j/92427319905 / Zoom Meeting ID: 924 2731 9905 / Password: 503699
