ORE Seminar: Seminar: Simulation & Modeling in the Marine Industry
October 5, 3:30pm - 4:30pmMānoa Campus, Watanabe Hall 112 and Zoom, see description for ID and password
Physics-based simulations and modeling tools are foundational for designing novel systems in the marine industry. These increasingly powerful tools allow for quicker design iterations, material cost savings, and improved engineering confidence, particularly at large design scales. In this talk, I鈥檒l discuss my experience working at a US defense contractor, primarily using fluid-structure interaction modeling of inflatable structures in the ocean. I鈥檒l also discuss my current experience at a climate tech startup using computational fluid dynamics for large structures in marine renewable energy. Other projects I鈥檝e worked on involving renewable energy and autonomous robotics will also be discussed. Due to confidentiality, the focus of this talk will be on useful design principles as well as my personal experiences working in these industries after ORE graduate school.
